Easter: Resurrection… or a Ritual Older Than the Church?

Easter: Resurrection… or a Ritual Older Than the Church?

You were told Easter is about resurrection.
About Jesus Christ rising from the dead.

But let’s be honest for a second…

What does a bunny have to do with resurrection?
Why are we painting eggs?

That disconnect? That’s your first clue.

The Timing Isn’t Random

Easter doesn’t fall on a fixed date.
It moves.

Why?

Because it’s tied to the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.

That’s not a random church decision.
That’s astronomical. Seasonal. Ancient.

Long before Christianity, cultures across the world were already celebrating this exact window of time.

Because spring isn’t just a season.
It’s a rebirth cycle.

Life returns.
Seeds break open.
Everything dead starts breathing again.

Sound familiar?

Before Easter… There Was Eostre

Some historians connect Easter to the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre.

A goddess of:

  • Dawn
  • Fertility
  • Renewal

Her symbols?

  • Eggs
  • Hares (rabbits)

Not a coincidence. Not even a little bit.

Eggs = life waiting to be born
Rabbits = rapid reproduction, fertility, abundance

That’s not resurrection theology.
That’s nature speaking in symbols

Even Deeper: Te Pattern Repeats

Here’s where it gets uncomfortable for some people.

The story of a dying and rising figure didn’t start with Christianity.

You see similar patterns in:

  • Osiris (Egypt)
  • Tammuz (Mesopotamia)
  • Adonis (Greece)

All tied to:

  • Death and rebirth
  • Seasonal cycles
  • The return of life after dormancy

This isn’t about copying.
It’s about a shared human understanding of nature’s rhythm.

So What Did the Church Do?

When Christianity spread, it didn’t erase these existing traditions.

It layered over them.

Same season.
Same symbolism.
New story.

That’s how belief systems survive. They adapt.

Easter became:

  • A celebration of Christ’s resurrection
  • Positioned exactly when people were already honoring renewal

That made it easier to accept. Easier to transition.

But the older meaning?
It didn’t disappear.

It just got… quiet.

Let’s Talk About the Real Energy of Easter

Strip away the marketing. Strip away the surface story.

Easter is about:

  • Death → Rebirth
  • Stillness → Awakening
  • Darkness → Light returning

That applies to:

  • Nature
  • The body
  • The mind
  • Your life

This is a time where:

  • Old versions of you die off
  • New energy pushes through
  • Growth becomes unavoidable

You don’t need permission from a church to feel that.
Your body already knows.

The Question Most People Avoid

If the symbols existed before the story…
then where did the meaning really begin?

And more importantly…

What else have you been celebrating without truly understanding it

Closing Line (Leave Them Thinking)

Easter didn’t lose its meaning.
It was given a new one.

The real question is…
which meaning are you choosing to live by?
