Everything we were taught
is a goddamn lie.
Every chapter,
every timeline,
every name they fed us
like medicine
was poison wrapped in a schoolbook.
They gave us stories with their faces on it,
crowning themselves the “first,”
the “native,”
the “discoverer,”
the “founder,”
the “father.”
But they were none of that.
Not even close.
They put a little truth in the lie
because they knew our bones
vibrate to the real thing.
They knew our spirits recognize
what the tongue forgot.
So they breadcrumbed us:
just enough resonance
to keep us quiet,
confused,
obedient,
asleep.
But that sleep is over.
That era is dead.
We are done rehearsing
their version of our existence.
My truth stands on the throat
of every false history
they tried to force-feed my people.
This land remembers us,
no matter how they rename it
or who they cosplay as.
Turtle Island knows her children.
Amaru knows her bloodline.
The soil knows the true ones
who walked it before paper,
before treaties,
before the theft.
Our roots go deeper
than their arrival,
their flags,
their Bibles,
their boats.
We didn’t “arrive.”
We emerged.
We rose with the dust,
with the rivers,
with the dawn.
And no pale-skinned colonizer,
no five dollar Indian,
no forged document,
no schoolroom lie
can take that from us.
I’m done pretending their story is truth.
I’m done reciting their script.
I’m done letting their comfort
rewrite my reality.
I walk in my truth now,
the one they tried to bury
under centuries of lies
but the ground spit it back out
because the truth belongs to us.
This fire in me
is older than their nations,
older than their flags,
older than their religion,
older than their fragile claim
to anything on this earth.
And I don’t give a damn
what America, society, colonizers,
or those counterfeit natives
have to say about it.
My truth burns hotter
than their stolen histories,
and I’m done dimming it
to make their lies feel safe.
I speak what my spirit knows.
I stand where my ancestors stand.
I remember what they feared:
We were here first.
We are still here.
And our truth is rising.
THE TRUTH THEY FEARED WE’D REMEMBER
