The Return Begins Within

Throughout this journey, we have looked backward.
We have remembered mothers.
We have explored ancestry.
We have honored birth.
We have reflected on healing.
We have traced the maternal thread that connects every generation.
But now...
The journey changes direction.
Because remembering the past is only meaningful if it transforms the present.
The Great Return is not simply about discovering who our ancestors were.
It is about discovering who we are becoming.
Every generation inherits two things.
A legacy.
And a responsibility.
We cannot choose the family into which we are born.
We cannot rewrite history.
We cannot undo every wound carried through generations.
But we can decide what we pass forward.
Many families carry remarkable gifts.
Resilience.
Faith.
Creativity.
Hospitality.
Perseverance.
Many families also carry pain.
Silence.
Fear.
Broken relationships.
Unspoken grief.
Patterns repeated because no one knew another way.
Recognizing these realities is not about assigning blame.

Healing often begins with honesty.

The honesty that liberates.
When we acknowledge what has been broken, we make room to build something stronger.
When we recognize inherited strengths, we become better stewards of them.

Science tells us that while we inherit genes, our environments, relationships, and choices also shape our lives. Families influence values, habits, and ways of relating, but people are not defined solely by what they inherit.
